Healthcare Marketing Statistics: 2026 Report

Patients now behave like consumers: they search, compare, and read reviews before they ever call a practice. This report compiles the healthcare marketing statistics that matter most in 2026, covering how much the industry spends, how patients make decisions, and which channels convert best. In short, digital captures more than 72% of healthcare ad budgets, 77% of patients search online before booking, and organic search converts the highest share of prospects into patients. Each finding is broken out with a chart below.

Healthcare Digital Ad Spend

U.S. healthcare and pharma digital ad spend is projected to reach $26.2 billion in 2026, after growing 10.5% in 2025 and a slower 4.8% in 20261. More than 72% of healthcare ad budgets now go to digital, and 2025 was the first year social media outspent linear TV in the sector2.

How Patients Research and Choose Providers

Search and reviews now drive provider selection. 77% of patients search online before booking an appointment, 71% read reviews when choosing a new doctor, and 96% say reviews are an important part of the decision2. Reputation acts as a filter: 72% avoid doctors rated under four stars, and 40% have changed an appointment because of a review.

Patient Conversion Rate by Marketing Channel

Not all traffic converts equally. Based on anonymized client data, organic search converts prospects to patients at 76.9%, the highest of any channel, followed by organic social at 73.1%3. Paid and offline channels bring volume but convert a colder audience, with direct mail lowest at 50.9%.

What These Statistics Mean for Healthcare Marketers

The takeaway is consistent across every metric: patients decide online, and they decide fast. Investing in organic search and reputation management reaches patients at the moment of intent and converts them at the highest rate, while slow response times and weak review profiles quietly send prospects to competitors. Budgets are already shifting toward digital, and the practices that respond within a day and maintain strong reviews capture a disproportionate share of new patients.
